A calf jumps out of the squeeze chute after being dehorned, ear tagged, and administered medicines by both mouth and injection. All newly arrived calves (age approx 12 months) are processed before moving them to a pen where they will fatten for the next six months. Each cow is given 3 injections to the neck, two liquids to the mouth, a new ear tag, and horns (if any) clipped off. (Most slaughterhouses won't take horned cattle, or pay much less for their meat, as they are more difficult to work with). The female cows are given an ear insert to prevent them from being able to reproduce while they are kept here, and some cows are also given another ear implant to increase their appetite.
