Harvesting sugarcane on Taboga Plantation, established in 1958. It produces 85-90 metric tons of sugar annually, from 6,000 hectares of irrigated farmland.
Harvester drivers here earn about $1,800/month for working 12-hour shifts, 6 days per week. Most of the hand-cutters who come from Nicaragua are not here this year due to work/visa complications from COVID-19.
