Koppert has developed a market for hydroponically grown sprouts that have intense and particular flavors that are used by gourmet chefs in salads and garnishes. They use pink spectrum LED lighting to supplement daylight on cloudy days and in the winter months to guarantee uniformly ideal growing conditions year-round. Plants don't absorb all wavelengths uniformly, and the pink LEDs are a more efficient way to transform electricity into plant growth.
